Educational Excursion 2025
Description: The 5th Semester Botany students undertook an educational excursion to the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Shillong and Cherrapunjee as part of their academic curriculum under the guidance of departmental teacher. Dr. Biju Borkataki, Promod Chandra Borah and Dr. Seema Khakhalary coordinated the tour. The visit to BSI, Shillong provided practical exposure to plant taxonomy, herbarium techniques, specimen preservation, and documentation of the floristic diversity of North-East India. Students interacted with scientists and gained insight into the role of BSI in plant exploration, identification, and conservation. The field visit to Cherrapunjee enabled students to observe diverse vegetation types, ecological adaptations to high rainfall, and natural habitats in situ. Major natural sites and surrounding landscapes helped students understand the relationship between climate, soil, and plant distribution. Overall, the excursion enriched students’ theoretical knowledge through field-based learning and enhanced their understanding of biodiversity, plant systematics, and environmental conservation.
