A Special Lecture on Bodo Literature
Description: A Special Talk was arranged on Bodo literature by the Bodo Department of B.H. College, Howly to make acquainted students with old and modern Bodo literature. Mrs Dhansiri Swargiary, Sahitya Akademy awardee attended the programme as resource person. Bodo literature has not flourished unlike Assamese, Bangla and other literatures of the country. With the initiative of some Christian Missionaries Bodo literature got written for the very first time in the second half of 18th century. In fact, written Bodo literature by native speakers started only in 1915 in early 19th century. From then up to now with the efforts of different leading organizations including Bodo Sahitya Sabha of the community, the different literary genres from poetry to drama, prose to novel, and biography to travelogue of Bodo literatures have emerged and flourished as well. Sahitya Akademy of India has been offering Sahitya Akademy Award since 2005 to the Bodo litterateurs for their best literary creations in the field of Bodo literature. Dhansiri Swargiary, resource person of the meeting in her speech discussed history of the Bodo literature. She also let students know about the recent literary development discussing about ongoing projects on Bodo language and literature, newly published books and translated books from other languages into Bodo language and vice-versa. Besides, she urged the student community to develop creative ideas by keeping involved themselves with different literary activities in and outside the institution
