 Observation of National Science Day on 28th February, 2018


Description: On the occasion of National science Day, ‘The Science Forum’, B.H.College, Howly organized a day long programme. The programme included the inauguration of Wall magazines of six Departments of science stream and a talk was delivered by Dr. Paban Kumar Saharia, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Cotton State University, Guwahati and also associated with many social activities and societies. The Wall magazines of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology and Statistics were inaugurated by Dr. Paban Kumar Saharia at 11.30 AM on 28th February 2018. During the programme, Dr. B.C. Pathak, President of the Forum; Faculties of Science Stream and students of each Department were present. After the inauguration, Dr. P.K. Saharia judged the wall magazines by having a long interaction with the students representatives of the respective Departments. The next programme started at about 1.15 PM in the College Auditorium. The Assistant Secretary of the Forum, Bappi Nath started the programme with a warm welcome and also stated the significance of the meeting. Dr. P. K. Saharia was felicitated by a phulam gamosa, a collection of Books published by the B.H. College Prakashan Samitee, a Pen, a Golden Jubilee Memento, Zappi and a souvenir “Smriti Grantha”. He was felicitated by Mr. J.P. Roy Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, B.H. College, Howly. Next Silpa Rani Pathak explained the objectives of the National Science Day and its Theme. Dr. P. K. Saharia started his speech with a warm welcome to the audience and stated the significance of the day. He explained the reason for celebrating National Science Day – Firstly to encourage new students on science realms and Secondly to spread message of science among masses. He gave an elaborate talk on “Life of C.V. Raman”. In his talk he said that one of the research papers of Raman was published a publisher of London and which was appreciated by Lord Ray, discoverer of Argon. Raman published a famous research paper, where he did an experiment on sound propagation for Indian instruments like Tabla, Sarangi etc. This paper was published in “NATURE” by Oxford publication. C.V. Raman is known for his discovery of Raman effect. He explained elaborately on Raman effect for which Raman was awarded Nobel prize in 1928. He concluded his speech by encouraging students to pay importance on hard work, passion, dedication and persistence to achieve the goal. Next Dr. B. C. Pathak, Principal, B.H. College, Howly delivered his inspirational speech and urged the students to try until the goal is achieved. He also spoke about the importance of National Science Day and encouraged the students to do hard work. Neha Das, a student from B.Sc. 4th Sem of Zoology Major expressed her views by saying that the keynote speech was encouraging for the students and gave much informations on the Life of C. V. Raman and Raman’s effect. At last, Dr. P. K. Saharia declared the result of wall magazine competition. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were received by the Departments of Mathematics, Chemistry and Zoology respectively. The consolation prizes were given away to the Departments of Physics, Statistics and Botany. The theme of the wall magazines were – 1. Department of Physics – Physics- Past, Present and Future. 2. Department of Chemistry – Food Chemistry. 3. Department of Mathematics – Mathematical Practices. 4. Department of Statistics – Key concepts of Statistics. 5. Department of Botany – Anatomy of Plant. 6. Department of Zoology – Reproductive Health.
