Accommodation

Girls' Hostel: There are two girls hostels in the college with a total capacity for 180 residents. the hostels ensure hygienic living conditions with personalized care and support.

Boys' Hostel: The boys hostel of the college has a capacity of 88 residents. It provides hygienic living conditions with personalized care and supported by a healthy and sporty environment.

Guest House: There is a guest house within the campus with self cooking provision and comfortable staying of three persons.

Principal Residence: There is residential accommodation for the principal within the college campus

Hostel Superintendents’ Residence: Two quarters are available for the superintendents of boys and girls hostels.

Common Rooms

Girls Common Rooms: There is a well furnished girls common rooms supported by proper sanitation facilities, Fast-aid medicine, incinerator and indoor games facilities.

Students’ Day Home: Well furnished and supported by indoor games facilities and proper sanitation.

Creche: There is a Creche (Day Care Home) services for staff children with modern amenities.

Canteen:
There are two college canteens which provide freshly cooked meals and snacks to students, staff and visitors at subsidized rates.

Seminar Hall:
There is a state-of-the-art seminar hall equipped with a sound system and air conditioner with an intake capacity of 120 for academic purpose.

Auditorium:
The college auditorium has a permanent stage and a sitting capacity of 1200 audience and equipped with proper sound system.

Drinking Water Plant:
The college provides pure drinking water to the students as well to the hostels and residences. Sufficient numbers of water cooler and filters are installed in different places for providing safe drinking water in the campus.

Sports Facilities:
The institution provides adequate sports facilities for the physical fitness of the students. The college has a sports organization called ‘Centre for Sports and Physical Education’ leaded by the Nodal Officer. There is a sports cell under the centre which usually maintain pro-active sports environment in the campus. The sports cell of the college is constituted of the representatives from faculty members, employees and students. There is a student union secretary for sports under the supervision of a teacher-in charge for generating a pro-active sports environment in the campus. Annual College Week is organized every year in which various sports competitions and cultural activities and competitions are conducted.
• Outdoor and indoor game facilities: The College has a spacious playground of 7500 sq. meters for football, cricket and athletics. There are separate courts for basketball, volley ball, and kabaddi . There is a well-furnished indoor Stadium equipped for badminton, table tennis and other indoor games.
• Gymnasium: there is gymnasium in the college with an instructor equipped with multi-gym facilities to cater the needs of students and faculty.
• There is an open gym in the college covering an area of 3000 sq feet (aprox)
• There are Sports items, sportswear and kits for players.
• There is a Yoga Centre in the college with necessary yoga materials.


IT Facilities



B.H. College has integrated Information and communication Technology (ICT) in its academic and administrative activities and aiming to complete automation of the regular activities of the college. Admission, administrative and academic process are integrated with IT to make the process convenient and transparent. The College has a deal with S.S. Technology, Guwahati, who develop and update the college website and the automation work of the library. Further, the College has tie-up with Corex, Guwahati, who especially look after the office automation work and the admission processes of the college. The institution has implemented e-governance in the area of operation of Administration, Finance and Account, Student’s admission and support and Examination. The entire campus is under cctv surveillance and internet connectivity is extended to every department, office and hostels.

There are total 115(One hundred five) computers, 5 Photostat machines, and 30 printers in the College (as on March, 2024) out of which 96 computers are used for academic purposes. There is a computer Lab with 30 no’s of computers with Wi-Fi facilities The teachers make use of different soft-ware and disseminate the operating knowledge of these software, which include: Sage Math, Latex, Mathematica, Sci Lab, R programming, SPSS, C-programming. Excel, Stata, etc. There are 20 classrooms equipped with modern ICT tools like interactive panel, internet connectivity, CCTV, projector, etc. notably, the college has two modern smart classroom.

At present, there are 17 numbers of internet connections at the college under BSNL optical fibre internet connection. . One internet connection is having a static IP with a bandwidth of 200Mbps. 12 numbers of connection are with bandwidth of 100 Mbps and rests four connections are having bandwidth of 60 Mbps.

ICT Intervention in Teaching Learning
There are 59 classrooms out of which two are smart Classrooms and 20 are ICT enabled classrooms with interactive penal and projectors.

The website has an integrated learning management system (LMS) where students may easily access class powerpoints, notes, video lectures, seminars, and interactive e-learning resources, among other things. Additionally, the college has an online portal (www.user.bhcollege.ac.in) dedicated to Learning Management. Distribution of assignment, class tests, Periodic evaluation, recording attendance, upload of study materials, all are integrated through this LMS module.

ICT Intervention at Library Management

ILMS in the Library:
The Central Library of B. H. College is situated in the southern part of the college academic building in the campus. The library is facilitated with a reading room having a seating capacity of 150 and an E-Resource Corner with 10 computers. The library is automated with the latest library management software solution KOHA (version 20.11) and it provides a reader friendly interface for searching resources in the library along with its availability status. Bar code scanner, thermal printer, bar code attendance facilities are installed. There is an internet connectivity of 200 Mbps bandwidth with a static IP (IP 117.211.77.156).

Barcode Attendance: To track the number of visitors to the library, a barcode-based attendance system for staff and students is installed at the entry point.

OPAC: OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) can be used to search the library\'s collections. QR Code based service: Library provides access to all the services provided by the library through using QR code.

E-Resource Corner: An e-resource corner is attached to the library equipped with 10 numbers of computers with internet connection in order to ensure the easy access the e-resources of the library like DELNET, Digital Library, SWAYAM, INFLIBNET, SODHGANGA, SODHPRABHA, DOAJ, NDLI, E-Book directory, etc.

• In the college library, updated versions of windows, library management software- koha, bar code scanner, thermal printer, bar code attendance facility are installed. B. H. College Library has a digital library module and is automated with KOHA software with cloud server facility.

• The college has developed its own IT platform for taking online classes effectively through its website. Additionally the teachers use various learning management system like Google Classroom Youtube, Zoom, GMeet, Teachmint, Webex etc. for lecture notes sharing and online classes.

• Projects, dissertations and question papers are provided through digital repository The Library has regular subscription of E-journals and E-books via INFLIBNET.

• All departments are equipped with computers and Wi Fi connectivity. Institute provides open Wi Fi facilities for pupils and teachers.

• Institute has a Dynamic Website and active social media platforms like Facebook, twitter and Instagram.

• Streaming off important events in social media.

• The attendance of the employees are recorded via Biometric scanner. The entire college campus has been covered by CCTV surveillance in 24 x 7 manners.

•The College has developed two web portal for admission purpose. These are http://www.admission.bhcollege.ac.in for fresh admission and http://www.readmission.bhcollege.ac.in for renewal admission.

• As an affiliated college under Gauhati University, the college uses online form fill up portal extensively for the benefit of the students.

• The institution has an active portal for online leave application.

• The institution has digital notice board(signage) for displaying important notice.


Extra Curricular Facilities



National Cadet Corps (NCC):
The NCC Unit of B H College, Howly was introduced in the college at the time of its inception with grand mission of nurturing dynamic youth of this college. The college unit was introduced under the charge of the founder Principal Sjt. Satya Nath Das which runs a three years course for both boys and girls with an intake capacity of 80 students. Now the cadets strength is SW=39, SD=41 total=80. During the last 5 years, a numbers of cadets successfully participated in different National, state and unit level camps. In this year (2023-24) total 16 cadets has got appoint in different defense service.

National Social Service (NSS):
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. At present, NSS Unit B. H. College Howly has near about 130 volunteers.

Scout and Guide:
The Bharat Scouts & Guides (BS&G) is the National Scouting & Guiding association of India.The Mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society. The Scout and Guide unit of B.H.College was constituted in 2023 and there are 60 active members (30 male +30 female) at present.

Cell for Adopted Villages
This cell renders dedicated services to the adopted villages in connection with the followings:
To make the villagers aware of the activities necessary for health care.
(c) To arrange pure drinking water and sanitary lavatory systems through Government Schemes.
(d) To organize free health camp time to time.
(e) To arrange meetings in the villages time to time to understand their problems and to provide suggestions for removal of them.
(f) To provide necessary financial help to specially abled persons.
(g) To give importance to the modernization of the cultivation sector.
(h) To bring awareness against tobaccos, alcohols, intoxicants etc.
(i) To motivate the young generations of the villages towards higher education.
(j) To arrange some classes by the members of the cell to remove illiteracy among females.
(k) To aware the villagers about blind faiths and superstitions.

Sahitya Chora
Sahitya Chora’ of B. H. College is a common platform for literary activities among the students of B. H. College, Howly. Born on 29th of September,1986, the society has already crossed three decades. The first committee was formed to run the activities of Sahitya Chora where Prof. Rabindra Bhattacharyya, Department of English was the President and Dhruba Kr. Talukdar, a student of Assamese Department was the Secretary. The main purpose of the society was to develop the literary talent of the students. Various measures were taken to achieve the goal.

Red Ribbon Club
The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students in educational institutions to make the youth aware with proper information on HIV/AIDs/STI/Sexuality/Drug use and other related issues. Moreover making the female students to identify and understand situation of abuse and exploitation. It also tries envisages to instill charity mind among students to help and support the people living with HIV/AIDS and reduce the myths, stigma and discrimination among them. And also motivate the students to come forward for voluntary blood donation for good cause of the society and needy people. The Red Ribbon Club is initiated and supported by multi-sectorial collaboration particularly using the services of All India Medical Association and FAAMCH, Barpeta.

Students belong to OBC, SC, ST and Minority communities are eligible for government scholarships. However, the recipients of the scholarships must uphold decent behaviour and consistently attend classes.
