 Observation of National Science Day on 28th February, 2019


Description: ‘The Science Forum’, B. H. College, Howly observed National Science Day with a day long programme and also published new edition of wall magazines of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany and Statistics on 28th February, 2019. The magazines were inaugurated by Dr. Kiran Chandra Bayan, Retired Principal, M. C. College, Barpeta at 11 AM. Dr. K. C. Bayan was also the HoD, Chemistry, M. C. College, Barpeta and associated with different social activities. After inauguration of the magazines a meeting was held in the Seminar Hall at 12.30 PM. Dr. Suruchi Singh, Secretary, ‘The Science Forum’ conducted the programme where Bappi Nath (6th Sem Zoology Major), Assistant Secretary of the Forum explained the aims and objectives of the programme with a warm welcome to all present in the meeting. Dr. K. C. Bayan started his speech stating the significance of the day and highly appreciated the forum for conducting such type of programme in the college. He also appreciated and encouraged the students associated with the wall magazines and urged them not to be superstitious. In his lecture, he appealed the students not to set fire into tyres, effigies of political leaders etc. during any type of protest which may pollute the environment. He also urged the students not to make sound pollution during bike rally. He advised the students to go through the book ‘Dead of Death’ written by MIT students. He talked about Einstein’s brain and some theories of Einstein like theory of relativity etc. Then Dr. B. C. Pathak Principal, B. H. College, Howly cum President, ‘The Science Forum’ said few lines regarding the importance of the National Science Day and inspired the students to do hard work to achieve the goals. In the meeting, Prof. Mrinal Kanti Bhowmick, HoD, Botany stated the history of the opening of science stream in the college and mentioned the contributions of the founders of the stream of which he was one of them. He also inspired and encouraged the students for a bright future. Then the merit award distribution ceremony was conducted where prizes were given to the best science graduate student and the students of scoring highest marks in the major subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany and Statistics of the year 2018. The prizes were comprised of a certificate along with a memento to each awardee. After this Dr. K. C. Bayan declared the results of competition of wall magazines and gave away the prizes to the winners. Department of Zoology begged the 1st prize while Departments of Mathematics and Physics begged the 2nd & 3rd prizes respectively. The themes of the magazines were 1. Botany : Study on Demography, 2. Mathematics : Mathematics in Real World, 3. Statistics : Biotechnology, 4. Physics : Physics in every field, 5. Chemistry : Forensic science and 6. Zoology : ZOOTOPIA – A paradise where all animals live together in harmony. In the programme, all the teachers and students of the science stream were present. The programme was ended by the vote of thanks offered by Neha Das, B.Sc. 6th Sem (Zoology Major).
