 Observation of World Environment Day, 5th June, 2023


Description: The tree plantation ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. B.C. Pathak, the esteemed Principal of B.H. College. Dr. Pathak planted a magnificent neem tree, symbolizing the importance of greenery and sustainability. Following his lead, other notable individuals such as Dr. Rodali Talukdar, the Head of the Chemistry Department, and Dhiraj Kumar Sarma, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, actively participated in the tree plantation drive. Jyoti Prasad Roy Choudhury, the Head of the Physics Department, and Dandeswar Deka himself, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, also joined in, further highlighting the unity and dedication towards environmental conservation. At noon, the attention shifted to the seminar hall, where an enlightening talk was scheduled to take place. Pranab Ch. Debnath, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at B.H. College, was invited as the resource person for the event. With a focus on the theme of World Environment Day, which revolved around finding solutions to plastic pollution, Mr. Debnath delivered an engaging speech. Using captivating PowerPoint slides, Mr. Debnath illustrated the utility, usage, and unfortunate misuse of plastics in our daily lives. He highlighted the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on the environment and shared valuable tips on how individuals can contribute to reducing and mitigating its effects. His presentation also emphasized the urgent need to save our planet from the perils of plastic pollution. Following Mr. Debnath's insightful speech, Dr. B.C. Pathak, the college Principal, addressed the audience. He expressed his appreciation for The Science Forum's efforts in organizing such crucial awareness programs. Dr. Pathak acknowledged the importance of educating and motivating students to actively work towards environmental conservation and the preservation of our planet. His words resonated with the audience, inspiring them to take responsibility and contribute to a greener and cleaner world. To conclude the event, Dandeswar Deka, the Secretary of The Science Forum, extended his gratitude to all attendees. He thanked the resource person, Mr. Debnath, for his enlightening talk and Dr. B.C. Pathak for his insightful remarks. Deka also acknowledged the presence of approximately 120 students, accompanied by a few guardians, and the dedicated teachers from the science stream who made the event a grand success. To provide a moment of relaxation, light refreshments were arranged for the students. Additionally, tea was served to the teachers, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared appreciation for the cause of environmental preservation. The World Environment Day celebration organized by The Science Forum at B.H. College, Howly, left a lasting impact on all participants. It not only heightened awareness about the importance of environmental conservation but also empowered students to actively contribute towards a sustainable future. The event served as a reminder that individual actions, no matter how small, can collectively make a significant difference in preserving our planet for generations to come.
