 National Science Day, 2023


Description: On the occasion of National Science Day-2023, ‘The Science Forum’, B. H. College, Howly organized a programme on 27th February, one day ahead of National Science Day (28th February). The programme included a Merit Award Ceremony also. Dr. Upakul Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Bhattadev University was invited for a talk on the occasion. The programme started at 12 noon in the seminar hall. Dandeswar Deka, Secretary, ‘The Science Forum’ conducted the programme. Dr. Mahanta was felicitated by a phulam gamocha by Dr. Suruchi Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology and Jyoti Prasad Roy Choudhury, HoD, Physics offered him a collection of books published by B. H. College Prakashan Samitee. The welcome speech was delivered by Dipjyoti Kalita, B.Sc. 6th Sem (Physics Honours) student. Then merit awards were given away to the Best Science Graduates and Subject Toppers of the years 2021 and 2022. Best science graduate award were comprised of a certificate, a trophy and a book ‘The brief history of time’ by Stephen Hawking. The subject topper award were comprised of a certificate and a book ‘The brief history of time’ by Stephen Hawking. Statistics Nihar Pathak (6002082917) 7.92 After the merit award distribution ceremony, Dr. Upakul Mahanta delivered his speech by giving a brief introduction to the theme of the science day - Global science for global wellbeing. Then he gave a nice presentation on the basics of astrophysics stating different terms like celestial sphere, altitude, latitude, longitude, horizon, ecliptic, vernal equinox, autumnal equinox, zenith, nadir etc. so that common students can understand very clearly. In his lecture he told that the components with which humans were composed of were available in the stars. After that, Principal cum President of the forum, Dr. B. C. Pathak was invited to say few words. In his short lecture, he appreciated Dr. Upakul Mahanta for his wonderful lecture and also offered thanks to the forum for conducting such type of activities. Then Alivia Das, B.Sc. 6th sem(Chemistry Hons) student sayed few words on the significance of National Science Day. Two awardees Beauty Rani Basumatary and Krishna Saha expressed their feelings on receiving awards. Finally Barnali Karmakar, B.Sc. 6th Sem (Physics Hons) student offered vote of thanks that ended at 2 pm. All the teachers, bearers and students of science stream were present in the programme making the event a grand success.
