Teaching Plan for All Courses


The Department of Assamese was started in the establishment year of the college in 1966 with Arts stream. Later on Commerce and Science Streams were also introduced in the college for both the Higher Secondary and Degree classes. The founder teachers of the Department were Late Girindra Kr. Das, Late Atul Ch. Barman and Late Khargeswar Nath. Later on Late Phul Kumari Kalita , Dr. Golokeswar Goswami and Late Dr. Siddheswar Barma joined in this Department. Of course Dr. Golokeswar Goswami left the college to take up other assignment in G.U. After that Dr. Renu Hazarika, Mrs. Usha Das, Dr. Hemanta Deka, Mr. Banjit Sarma and Dr. Prasanta Rabha joined in the Department. In 2018, it was upgraded to a full-fledged Department with the opening of the Post Graduate Course. Besides, Dr. Joydeep Majumdar, Mrs. Anupa Sarkar, Mrs. Papori Pathak, Mrs. Momi Talukdar, Mr. Mijanur Rahman , Mrs. Pratibha Saikia, Ms. Kaberi Das, Ms. Deepshikha Kalita, Mrs. Meghali Chetia, also served as teachers in the Department for short periods of time.
At Present Dr. Renu Hazarika, Mrs. Usha Das, Dr. Hemanta Deka, Mr. Banjit Sarma and Dr. Prasanta Rabha are the permanent faculty members of the Department. Beside this Ms. Karisma Baishya, Mrs. Trishna Moni Das,Ms. Chandamita Das, Mr. Dimpal Sarma are engaged as guest faculties in the Department. The Department of Assamese is a full-fledged Department with five permanent teaching staff along with guest faculties. The Department of Assamese (UG & PG) has a well – established academic track record of having production of more than thousand of graduates. The faculty members are all well qualified and library facilities are of high standard. The objective of the Department is to impart quality education and to make the students successful in every sphere of life.


VISION

The vision of the Department is to motivate the students to enrich their knowledge on Language, Literature and Culture of Assam, and to make students understand the diversity, tradition and heritage in order to conserve the socio-cultural environment of the state along with India and abroad.


MISSION

Mission of the Department is to impart knowledge on Language and Literature through innovative teaching and learning, and also to create awareness about Literary Theory, Trends in Literature and its History.


PROGRAMME OUTCOME

1. Acquiring the knowledge of the Literary Theory, Characteristics and basic concepts related to the Language and understanding their relevance in our Culture.
2. Development of the skills in handling the concept of Language and practical applications of different types of prose and style.
3. Learn to write, analyze and criticize any kind of creative works.
4. Acquire the knowledge of observation, analysis, explaining the characteristics through latest methods of better understanding.
5. Learn to maintain ethical, moral and social values leading to highly cultured and civilized personality.
6. Students get plenty of opportunity to improve communication skills, learn life skills to establish good relationship with the society and to upgrade the standards of living.
7. Learn to realize pursuit of knowledge as lifelong activity and develop positive attitude towards every aspect of life thereby creating healthy environment, balanced mental and physical health which leads to successful and satisfactory life.

The aim of this paper is to give knowledge of structure of Assamese Language. They will learn about phonetics, concepts of grammar with its various aspects.

This paper aims to know the different evolutionary concepts of Assamese Scripts. This paper covers origin of Assamese Scripts through selected inscriptions. They will also learn about Indian Scripts in this paper.

Paper Code: ASM-HE-6016 (Lakshminath Bezbaruah)
After completing this course learners will understand the contribution of Lakshminath Bezbaruah. His contribution towards Romantic Poetry, Short Story, Autobiography and Articles. They will be given a overall concept on his literature through selected texts.

DISCIPLINE CENTRIC ELECTIVE COURSES-IV
Paper Code: ASM-HE-6056 (Project)
This paper aims to students prepare for research works. They have to write a project work on important places, festivals, rituals, folk performing arts, folk literature and folk language. Teachers will supervise the whole project. There are 80 marks for written project and 20 marks for viva-voce.

4592024-02-10National Seminar on the topic "Modern Assamese Poetry's Evolution and Diversity."Today, on February 10, 2024, the Assam Sahitya Sabha and B.H. College's Assamese department jointly organized a National Seminar on the topic "Modern Assamese Poetry's Evolution and Diversity." This event, now a national-level discussion circle, began with the inauguration of Dikshita Nath�s Bargeet . The program started with welcoming song of Assam Sahitya Sabha. Dr. Bhushan Chandra Pathak, Principal,B.H.College read out poems and delivered an inspiring speech. The Keynote Adress of the discussion circle was given by Dr. Gitanjali Hazarika, Associate professor of the Assamese department of Arya Vidyapeeth College. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Upendrajit Sharma, the chief editor of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, and renowned poet Dr. Hiren Choudhury, who is also the executive president of the coordination committee of the Assam Sahitya Sabha's poets' meet. Dr. Gitanjali Hazarika, Dr. Sultan Ali Ahmed, and Dr. Renu Hazarika, along with 25 researchers from various parts of Assam, actively participated in the successful discussion circle, shedding light on the evolution and aesthetics of modern Assamese poetry. Dr. Hemanta Deka beautifully coordinated the discussion circle, ensuring a smooth and engaging event.

The topic of the meeting was " Correct pronunciation and spelling of Assamese Language". Prominent linguist Pramod Ch. Bhattacharya was the resource person of the meeting. Hitesh Das, President of Barpeta Road Sahitya Sabha was present in the meeting. Vice-Principal Ranjit Bhuyan delivered the welcome speech. Dr. Renu Hazarika, HoD, Assamese presided over the meeting. Prof. Prabin Maheshwari, Associate Professor, Department of Accountancy, B. H. College, was invited as Chief Guest. He advised the students to work hard and struggle for achieving their goals. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Renu Hazarika, HoD, Assamese. Prof. Usha Das, Prof. Karisma Baishya, Prof. Chandamita Das and Prof. Dimpal Sarma of the Assamese Department wished the students all the best for the days ahead. H. College, Howly at 12.30 PM in the seminar hall today on 27-04-2023. The Chief Guest, Dr. B. C. Pathak, Principal, B. H. College, Howly praised the initiative of the Department for publishing the journal in regular manner. Dr. Dipmani Das, HoD, English suggested to make the standard of the journal high enough. Dr. Renu Hazarika, HoD, Assamese presided over the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was narrated by Dr. Prasanta Rabha, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese. As a result, the Assamese language developed differently from other New-Indian Aryans. Bodo is one of the Tibetan-Burmese languages. The Bodo language has influenced the Assamese language in various aspects. Therefore it is very much important for the students to have knowledge of Bodo language. Considering this aspect, a special lecture on Bodo Language has been arranged by the Department of Assamese, B. H. College, Howly on 01-03-2023. Dr. Dipali Kherkatary, HoD, Bodo, B. H. College has been invited as resource person to speak on Bodo language. In her speech, Dr. Kherkatary has explained the various aspects of Bodo language. The faculty members and students of Assamese Department are present in the programme making it a grand success.
