INTRODUCTION

This department was opened along with the establishment of the college in 1966 to cater to the needs of the muslim minority students as there is a significant presence of muslim people in this locality. The founder teacher of the department was Abdus Sobhan who worked sincerely till his retirement in 2007. In between he was elected twice to the Assam Assembly(1977-85) as an MLA from Jania LAC. During that period a substitute teacher was appointed against lian vacancy. Dewan Abdul Qadir served this department as a regular teacher from 1978-1998 who was also a good writer of religious and literary books. He was also selected by the state government as a literary pensioner, an important recognition as a writer. After his retirement Dr. Abdul Kader Ahmed joined this department in 1998. He became the HOD of Arabic in 2007 and has been serving the position till the date. Mr. Safiqul Islam joined the department in 2004 as Assistant Professor. From this department, Hazrat Hasanuz Zaman became University topper in 2003 as he secured 1st class 1st in B.A. Final Examination.

* Ensuring the role of faculty, research scholars and students in the development of society and nation with secular consciousness

PROGRAMME OUTCOME

The Programme is expected to develop an understanding of the Arabic literature along with language skills. They get acquainted with the different forms of poetry, prose, fictions and drama. The courses offered enable the students to get exposed to advanced level of grammatical patterns and usages in Arabic.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

Programme Specific Outcomes means what the graduate students of a specific Degree programme should be able to do and course outcomes are the resultant knowledge skills and the students acquire at the end of the course. Programme outcome may set as follows:
1. Students acquire knowledge and skills of literary theory and comprehend the complex of interactions among various dimensions.
2. Students can understand the basic concept of language and literature.
3. Students gather knowledge about cultural aspects of Assam and neighbouring state of India and abroad.
4. Students are exposed to the knowledge on various dialects of Arabic literature.
5. Students can gather knowledge on various creative writings.
6. Students can develop knowledge on various aspects custom and traditions also.
7. Students can develop their skills of explaining and analyzing through different seminars and workshops.
8. Students can learn to stand against the corruptions and social evils and play active part in the protection of national integration.

Paper Code: ARA 101 (Basic of Arabic Language from this paper learners will be able to learn about subject matter, such as an Introduction to language and its family. Arabic Alphabet and word formation, Sentence formation in Arabic

Paper Code: ARA-SEC-0110003 (Spoken Arabic-1)
From this paper learners can know the fundamentals of Arabic language, Development of Reading and writing skill, Vocabulary Enrichment, Basic Grammar and conversation practices.

From this paper learner will be able to learn basic grammar of Arabic language, various verbs, kinds of sentences, vocabulary enrichment and use of words in sentences with meanings etc.

From this paper the learners are able to know Modern Arabic Prose and poetry literature.

Paper Code: Major ARA-202 Compulsory (Arabic prose and poetry)
From this paper students will learn from some story, freedom equality, unity, brotherhood and morality also they can learn life story of some companion of Prophet Muhammad S.A.S. From some poetry students will learn regarding Zakat, Importance of Arabic language and literature also.

Paper Code: Major ARA- 203 Arabic Translation, Compositions and Grammar.
In this paper Students are able to know Arabic translation, composition and grammar also. They will know some important terminologies in Arabic. They will know Academic, Administrative, political and Economic terminologies also. They will learn translation for English to Arabic and translation for Arabic to English. Besides, they well know comprehension of text and essay with letter writing also.

Paper Code: Major ARA-205 History of Arabic Literature (Pre Islamic to Early Islamic Period)
From this paper the learners are able to learn Pre Islamic Literature. They will know the features and characteristics of pre Islamic Arabic prose and poetry. They will know the suspended ode or The Muallaqat. They will know about the development of Arabic prose and poetry during early Islamic period. The well learns the features and characteristics of Arabic prose and poetry during early Islamic period.

In this paper learners are know about the right of women to his husband right of children to his husband right of parents to their children.

MECHANISM FOR CONTINUOUS INTERNAL EVALUATION(CIE)

Arabic Department conducts group discussions, Quize competitions and lecture competitions. Besides, the Department conducts Sessional examinations, MCQ based tests, home assignments for every paper and viva - voce also.
