Physics Honours and Physics Generic
The Department of Physics has a teacher common room of area of about 180 sq. ft. Physics laboratories are wide and specious, and well-equipped along with a separate dark room. It has its own library with 160 reference and text books on Solid state Physics, Mechanics, Classical Physics, Nuclear Physics both in HS and UG levels. It has also few books on advanced electronics. Under Graduate course in CBCS pattern started from the academic session 2019-20.

Bachelor of Science offers theoretical as well as practical knowledge about different subject areas.
This course forms the basis of science for coherent understanding of the academic field to pursue multi and interdisciplinary science careers in future. These subject areas include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Zoology and Botany.
Able to plan and execute experiments or investigations, analyze and interpret data information collected using appropriate methods.
It helps to develop scientific temper and thus can prove to be more beneficial for the society as the scientific developments can make a nation or society to grow at a rapid pace through research.

After the completion of B. Sc. in Physics, the students become able to :
Demonstrate a rigorous understanding of the core theories & principles of physics, which includes mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, & quantum mechanics introduced at degree level
in order to understand nature at atomic levels.
Provide knowledge about material properties and its application for developing technology to ease the problems related to the society.
Understand the set of physical laws, describing the motion of bodies, under the influence of system of forces.
Understand the relationship between particles & atom, as well as their creation & decay. Relate the structure of atoms & subatomic particles understand physical properties of molecule the chemical bonds between atom as well as molecular dynamics.
Analyse the applications of mathematics to the problems in physics & develop suitable mathematical method for such application & for formulation of physical theories.
Course: B. Sc. Physics
Course Specific Outcomes:
1. PHY-HC-1016: Mathematical Physics-I: Would learn mathematical methods to solve the various problems in physics. The topics include the calculus of functions, Fourier transform, special functions and special integrals, partial differential equations, complex analysis and variables.
2. PHY-HC-1016(LAB): Students would perform basic computer programming related to mathematics using basics programming such as PYTHON, FORTRAN, C, C++.
3. PHY-HC-1026: Mechanics: The students would learn about the behavior of physical bodies it provides the basic concepts related to the motion of all the objects around us in our daily life. The course builds a foundation of various applied field in science and technology; especially in the field of mechanical engineering. The course comprises of the study vectors, laws of motion, momentum, energy, rotational motion, gravitation, fluids, elasticity and special relativity.
4. PHY-HC-1026 (LAB): Students would perform basic experiments related to mechanics and also get familiar with various measuring instruments would learn the importance of accuracy of measurements.
5. PHY-HC-2016: Electricity and Magnetism: It gives an opportunity for the students to learn about one of the fundamental interactions of electricity and magnetism, both as separate phenomena and as a singular electromagnetic force. The course contains vector analysis, electrostatics, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and Maxwell’s equations. The course is very useful for the students in almost every branch of science and engineering.
6. PHY-HC-2016(LAB): Students would gain practical knowledge about electricity and magnetism and measurements such as: Resistance, Voltage, current etc.
7. PHY-HC-2026: Wave and Optics: The course comprises of the study of superposition of harmonic oscillations, waves motion (general), oscillators, sound, wave optics, interference, diffraction, polarization. The course is important for the students to make their career in various branches of science and engineering, especially in the field of photonic engineering.
8. PHY-HC-2026(LAB): The practical knowledge of wave motion doing experiments: Tuning fork, electric vibrations. They would also learn optical phenomena such as interference, diffraction and dispersion and do experiments related to optical devices: Prism, grating, spectrometers Discipline Specific Elective papers.
9. PHY-HC-3016: Mathematical Physics-II: Would learn mathematical methods to solve the various problems in physics. The topics include the calculus of functions, Fourier transform, special functions and special integrals, partial differential equations, complex analysis and variables.
10. PHY-HC-3016(LAB): Various practical problems related to applications of mathematical tools to solve the problems in physics would be learned by COMPUTER PROGRAMMING..
11. PHY-HC-3026: Thermal Physics: The course makes the students able to understand the basic physics of heat and temperature and their relation with energy, work, radiation and matter. The students also learn how laws of thermodynamics are used in a heat engine to transform heat into work. The course contains the study of laws of thermodynamics, thermodynamic description of systems, thermodynamic potentials, kinetic theory of gases, theory of radiation and statistical mechanics.
12. PHY-HC-3026(LAB): Students would gain practical knowledge about heat and radiation, thermodynamics, thermo emf , RTD etc. and perform various experiments.
13. PHY-HC-3036: Digital System and Application: The students would gain the knowledge of Basic Electronics circuits, network theorems and measuring instruments: They would know about common solid state devices: Semiconductor diodes and transistors. The topics also include the Rectifiers, Filters and their applications, number systems and logic gates which are foundation blocks of digital electronics.
14. PHY-HC-3036(LAB): This course would introduce students with the basic experimental knowledge of electronics their applications in solving common and scientific problems, the course include scientific programming languages, scientific word processing and graphical analysis.
15. PHY-HC-4016: Mathematical Physics-III: Would learn mathematical methods to solve the various problems in physics. The topics include the calculus of functions, Fourier transform, special functions and special integrals, partial differential equations, complex analysis and variables.
16. PHY-HC-4016(LAB): This course would introduce students with the basic knowledge of computers their applications in solving common and scientific problems, the course include scientific programming languages, scientific word processing and graphical analysis.
17. PHY-HC-4026: Elements of Modern Physics: Students would know about the basic principles in the development of modern physics. The topics covered in the course build a basic foundation of undergraduate physics students to study the advance branches: quantum physics, nuclear physics, particle physics and high energy physics. The course contains the study of Planck’s hypothesis, photoelectric effect, Compton effect, matter waves, atomic models, Schrodinger wave equations, and brief idea of nuclear physics.
18. PHY-HC-4026(LAB): Elements of Modern Physics: In this course students would be able to understand Basic experiments of modern physics such as: Determination of Plank’s and Boltzmann’s constants, Determination of ionization potential, Wavelength of H-spectrum, Single and double slit diffraction, Photo electric effect and determination of e/m .
19. PHY-HC-4036: Analog System and Application: Students would learn about electronic circuits such as Amplifiers and Oscillators. Various types of Amplifier and Oscillator circuits their working and applications in in domestic, industrial and scientific devices/equipments.
20. PHY-HC-4036(LAB): This course would introduce students with the basic experimental knowledge of electronics their applications in solving common and scientific problems, the course include scientific programming languages, scientific word processing and graphical analysis.
21. PHY-HC-5016: Quantum Mechanics and Application: Quantum mechanics provides a platform for the physicists to describe the behavior of matter and energy at atomic and subatomic level. The course plays a fundamental role in explaining how things happen beyond our normal observations. The course includes the study of Schrodinger equations, particle in one dimension potential, quantum theory of H like atoms, atoms/molecules in electric and magnetic fields.
22. PHY-HC-5016(LAB): Quantum Mechanics: Various practical problems solving methods related to Quantum Mechanics would be learned by students.
23. PHY-HC-5026: Solid state Physics: Solid State Physics: Students would be able to understand various types of crystal structures and symmetries and understand the relationship between the real and reciprocal space and learn the Bragg’s X-ray diffraction in crystals. Would also learn about phonons and lattice.
24. PHY-HC-5026(LAB): Solid State Physics: The course Provides practical knowledge of various physical phenomena such as: magnetism, dielectrics, ferroelectrics and semiconductors. Students would gain a hands-on learning experience by performing experiments on these properties of materials.
25. PHY-HE-5016: Experimental Techniques: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the errors in measurement and statistical analysis of data required while performing an experiment. Also, students will learn the working principle, efficiency and applications of transducers and industrial instruments like digital multimeter, RTD, Thermistor, Thermocouples and Semiconductor type temperature sensors.
26. PHY-HE-5016(LAB): To increase the understanding depth of theoretical concept of Transducer, LVDT, Strain Gauge and capacitive Transducer by practically.
27. PHY-HE-5056: Particle and Nuclear Physics: Upon completion of this course, students will have the understanding of the sub atomic particles and their properties. They will gain knowledge about the different nuclear techniques and their applications in different branches of Physics and societal application. The course will develop problem based skills and the acquire knowledge can be applied in the areas of nuclear, medical, archeology, geology and other interdisciplinary fields of Physics and Chemistry.
28. PHY-HC-6016: Electromagnetic Theory: On successful completion of the course students will acquire the concepts of Maxwell’s equations, propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves in different homogeneous-isotropic as well as anisotropic unbounded and bounded media, production and detection of different types of polarized EM waves, general information as waveguides and fibre optics..
29. PHY-HC-6016(LAB): To increase the understanding depth of theoretical concept thermodynamics, magnetism and dielectric concepts. Understanding and Analysis of data and plot appropriate graphs and reach the conclusions from your data analysis using Excel Shit.
30. PHY-HC-6026: Statistical Mechanics: On successful completion of the course students will be learn the techniques of Statistical Mechanics to apply in various fields including Astrophysics, Semiconductors, Plasma Physics, Bio-Physics, Chemistry and in many other directions. Understand Partial equations. To study the Probability concept in details and study Maxwell Boltzmann law. Understand Bose-Einstein’s and Fermi- Dirac Principle
31. PHY-HC-6026(LAB): Students would perform computer programming related to Statistical Mechanics and solving Maxwell-Boltzmann, Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac Statistics by using SCILAB programme.
32. PHY-HE-6046: Astronomy and Astrophysics: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understanding the origin and evolution of the Universe. The course will give a comprehensive introduction on the measurement of basic astronomical parameters such as astronomical scales, luminosity and astronomical quantities. It will give an overview on key developments in observational astrophysics. Students will have the idea of the instruments implemented for astronomical observation, the formation of planetary system and its evolution with time, the physical properties of Sun and the components of the solar system; and stellar and interstellar components of our Milky Way galaxy. Students will have the understanding of the origin and evolution of galaxies, presence of dark matter and large scale structures of the Universe.
33. PHY-He-6056: Classical Dynamics: Understanding of Newton’s law and apply them into calculation of the motion of simple system. Solve problems related to Lagrangian equation. This course is a prelude to advanced theoretical studies in Condensed Matter Physics, Spectroscopy and Hamiltonian, Schrödinger Theory and applications of it.

The meet commenced with a group song excellently performed by the 4th-Sem Hons students, led by Jyoti Mandal on the harmonium and accompanied by Gourish Mandal, a skilled tabla player. Dr. Nur Hussain, an esteemed alumnus, graced the occasion as the president of the meeting. The welcome address was delivered by D. Deka, who explained the significance of the gathering and provided a brief historical overview of the dept. Principal Dr. B. C. Pathak, S. Choudhury, President, College Alumni Association, and S. K. Nath, all emphasized the importance of such reunions. Several alumni, including Barnali Pathak, Jintu Pathak, Sanatan Karmakar, and Simanta Das, nostalgically shared their cherished memories and experiences from their time in the dept. J.P. Roy Choudhury, Hemanga Das, an alumnus, and the cute little girl Peehu, added charm to the occasion by exciting the audience with their melodious voices. The 4th-Sem students, Jyoti Mandal and Popy Narzary, mesmerized everyone with their beautiful modern dances. The entire event was sincerely coordinated by the 4th-Sem students. A total of 42 alumni registered for the meet, creating an atmosphere of closeness. An alumni association of the Dept. was formed. Dr. N. 5th Physics Olympiad has been conducted today on 5th November 2023 at B. H. College Centre. All total 440 candidates applied for the exam and 411 have attended the exam with attendance percentage of 93.4. In category I( class IX-X) 234 and in category II(class XI-XII) 177 examinees were present. It is an state level exam meant for the students of IX to X-XII to encourage them for competitive exam and make them interested to the beautiful subject of Physics. The Physics Department conducted the exam under the aegis of Assam Physical Society. Physicist as well as scientists from different parts of the state are involved with the examination. All the faculty members of Physics Department make all arrangements, prof. Dandeswar Deka worked as the Centre-in-charge of the exam.
