 Phulkumari Kalita Memorial Lecture at B. H. College


Description: Phulkumari Kalita Memorial Lecture at B. H. College On June 27, 2024, the Assamese Department of B. H. College, with the support and presence of ex- students of the department, successfully organized the "Phulkumari Kalita Memorial Lecture." The event began with a Borgeet by ex-student Phul Devi. The invited speaker, eminent literary personality Akshay Kumar Mishra, unveiled the book "Rup and Rupantar of Modern Assamese Poetry," edited by Dr. Hemanta Deka from the Assamese Department. During his lecture, Mishra thoughtfully discussed the contributions of the late Phulkumari Kalita to Assamese folk culture. Literary figure Vivekaranjan Roychoudhury elaborated on Kalita's multifaceted talent, especially her proficiency in acting. Writer Ramkrishna Talukdar also presented his views on different aspects of Kalita's talents. Principal of B.H. College Dr. Bhushan Chandra Pathak highlighted the intrinsic aspects of Kalita's writings and compared her work with that of renowned Hindi literary figures. Retired principal of Bhawanipur Anchalik College and Pulkumari Kalita's husband, Nabin Kalita, expressed his gratitude to the ex-student for organizing the event in her memory, emphasizing her greatness. Head of the Department Dr. Renu Hazarika reminisced about the sweet memories of being close to P. Kalita. Professor Dr. Hemanta Deka spoke about the stories behind Kalita's works that he edited. The event was enlivened by popular artists Kabin Das and Dhulikona Das, who mesmerized the audience with songs composed by Phulkumari Kalita. A departmental library, funded by donations from former students, was also inaugurated at the event by Vice Principal Ranjit Bhuyan.
