A Green Audit Cell in a college is a committee responsible for promoting environmental sustainability and reducing the college’s ecological footprint. The objectives of the cell:
1. Conduct regular environmental audits to assess the college’s sustainability performance.
2. Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption, water usage and waste generation.
3. Promote rain water harvesting and grey water use.
4. Promote sustainable practices among students, staff and faculty.
5. Encourage recycling, composting and proper waste management.
6. Monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
7. Develop and maintain green spaces on campus.
8. Collaborate with local organizations for environmental initiatives.
9. Educate and raise awareness about environmental issues.
10. Improves college reputation and social responsibility.

Construction of Mushroom House and Green House cum Orchid House | The Green Audit Cell in collaboration with the department of Botany constructed permanent MUSHROOM CULTIVATION HOUSE and GREEN HOUSE cum ORCHID HOUSE in B.H. College campus (In front of college library building). The college introduced an Add-on-certificate course on “Mushroom Cultivation” from the session 2022-2023 which is run by the Department of Botany. By offering a Mushroom Cultivation course, educational institutions can provide students with a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for a sustainable and entrepreneurial future. As a part of conservation of local orchid flora, an orchid cum green house is constructed in B.H. College Campus in 2023. An orchid cum green house is maintained by the Department of Botany, B.H. Construction of Concrete Dustbin | The Green Audit Cell constructed CONCRETE DUSTBIN in college canteen (Canteen 1 and Canteen 2), guest house, both college boy’s and girl’s hostel for the collection and deposition of organic and inorganic waste. | |
Construction of Vermicompost Unit | The Green Audit Cell constructed the VERMICOMPOST UNIT in the back side of the B.H. College Auditorium. The purpose of constructing a vermicompost plant unit in a college campus is to manage organic wastes to produce nutrient rich compost. It also promotes sustainable waste management and support sustainable agriculture. Vermicompost can help improve soil’s water holding capacity, reducing water consumption. It also provides hands-on-learning opportunities for students to understand sustainable waste management and organic farming. It also encourages students, staff and faculty to participate in sustainable practices and take ownership of environmental initiatives. | |
Construction of Bio Gas Plant | The Green Audit Cell constructed two BIO GAS PLANTS in B.H. College Boy’s and Girl’s hostel. By constructing a Bio Gas plant, the college can reduce its carbon foot print, promote sustainability and provide a valuable learning experience for students while managing waste and generating clean energy. | |
Construction of RAIN WATER HARVESTING UNIT | The Green Audit Cell constructed RAIN WATER HARVESTING UNIT in the college campus. By constructing a rain water harvesting system, the college can contribute to a more sustainable future while providing numerous benefits for the college campus such as conserve water, reduce storm water runoff, recharge ground water, decrease water bills, increase water self-sufficiency, support sustainable practices and providing a teaching opportunity. | |
Collection of Single Used Plastic | The Green Audit Cell took initiative to make the college campus plastic free and collection of single-used plastic by the students and deposition to the specific counter. An initiative aimed at uploading the cleanliness and hygiene standards of our college premises. The College has also implemented a fine system to students to deter actions that contribute to the degradation of our environment within the college premises. | |
Plantation Drive | Plantation programmes were organized time to time in the college campus as well as in the neighbouring village to create awareness among the villagers and students community about the importance of plants in our day to day life. | |
Awareness programme on "Proper Use of Plastic" | An Awareness programme in collaboration with NSS unit and IQAC, B.H. College, Howly was conducted on "Proper Use of Plastic" on 23rd September, 2023 among the student’s communities to educate them about the different harmful effects of plastic misuse and promote sustainable practices. Dhiraj Kr. Sarma, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, B.H. College, Howly was invited as Resource Person for the programme. | |
Generation and Pasting of QR Code on trees for the plant identification | The Green Audit Cell in collaboration with the Department of Botany, B.H. College, Howly generated QR Code for each plant species available in our college campus. Students can get details about the plant species by scanning the QR Code with their smart phone. QR code provides users an instant access to tree information which includes common names, scientific name, classification up to species level as well as medicinal uses and other relevant details. |
