Asomiya Sahitya Chora

About Asomiya Sahitya Chora

Since its inception, the Assamese Department of B.H. College has produced numerous literature enthusiasts, poets, and writers who have made significant contributions to the literary world of Assam, enhancing the college’s heritage and becoming a source of pride. To inspire the new generation in this direction, in 2003, under the initiative of then-head of the Assamese Department, Professor Phulkumari Kalita, and with the cooperation of the departmental faculty, the program ‘ Axamiya Sahitya Chora’ was established for the students.
Prior to this, the B.H. College Xahitya Chora had been focusing on this aspect. From its inception, the 'Assamese Literature Circle' has strived to engage students through seminar, forums, commemorative meeting, artists' days, Rabha Day celebrations, speech events, appreciation meetings, poetry gatherings, and Satra surveys, aiming to highlight various facets related to Assamese literature and culture.
To reflect Assamese literature and culture, a magazine has been under development through this program for many years. In that regard, in 2008, under the guidance of the then-principal of B.H. College, Dr. Kunj Kusum Kakoti, and Professor Phulkumari Kalita a new committee was formed. The first issue of 'Dunori' was launched on August 8, 2008, in a significant event attended by many notable figures from the college, with Bashistha Dev Sharma, the elder Satradhikar of Barpeta Satra, unveiling it. Through a peer-reviewed committee, this journal was subsequently designated as an ISBN-registered publication.
Objectives of the ‘ Axamiya Sahitya Chora’:
1. To promote literary awareness among students,
2. To hold academic meeting to discuss the current developments of literature,
3. To organize literary programmes like poets meet, literary conference, seminar, literary lecture, publishing magazine, books etc.
