Certificate Course in Spoken Hindi
Introduction
The Department was opened in 1971.Hindi was started as MIL and B.Com General, Subsequently in2012 the Department open honours Course for the first time. And Since then this is being continued. While the Department was started it had only one founder Teacher Named Sri Dilip Kumar Sarma. He Continued his service in this department up to 2009. In 1977 another Teacher Named Dr. Jawaharlal Nahata Joined in the Department and he continued in his service up to 2008. In 2008 Dr. Rajkumari Das and in 2010 Dr. Jinakshi Chutia Joined in the Department. Mamoni Das, Ginima Roy, Purnima Devi, Samzad Ansari, Gunin Das also served as Teacher in the Department for short period of time. At present Dr. Rajkumari Das, Dr. Jinakshi Chutia are the Permanent Faculty members of the Department. And Kakali Das is engaged as Guest Faculty in the Department.
The Department at present offered B.A Honours in Hindi, Generic Hindi, B.Com Hindi General And Certificate Course in Spoken Hindi.
Department of Hindi, B.H College is committed to develop an academic environment oriented towards rational thinking, moral values and composite culture in terms of Hindi language and Literature. Our courses are designed to prepare young generation well-versed in Hindi language and literature in all its branches.
Our mission is to carryout the Vision mentioned above .The Department is engaged in high quality research in the field of medieval & modern literature. We want to grow an atmosphere where the traditions are blended with modern outlook as our nation requires today. . Keeping in view of the requirement of the modern times , we are concentrating on the vocational courses e.g. Hindi Translation , Functional & Communicative Hindi , Hindi Journalism & Professional writings along with the main objective to produce competent teachers to fulfill the vision defined above.
Programme Outcomes (PO's) :
After completion of the above programme, students will be able to develop an understanding of Hindi language as functional Hindi. They will be enable to work and associate with government of India offices to get employment under official language policy.
The knowledge of Hindi language and literature both will help to develop communication skills, as well as writing skills of the students.

From this paper learners will be able to understand the basic of the classification of Hindi Literature. Students will be able to understand the trends of Adikal, Bhaktikal and Ritikal, in context of socio-cultural and political condition of that period.

Learners will be able to understand the description and importance of political, social and cultural conditions of Adhunik kaal and significance of the Hindi Renaissance period. Students will be able to know the features and importance of Bhartendu Yug, Dwivedi Yug, Chhayavad, Prayogvad, Pragativad, Nai kavita and Samkalin kavita along with their leading poets. They will also learn about the origin and development of Khadiboli Hindi Gadya.

आदिकालीन एवं मध्यकालीन हिन्दी कविता
This paper covers Adikalin and Madhyakalin Poetry of Hindi Literature with some selected texts. Learners will be familiar with Maithili, Sadhukkadi, Awadhi and Braj Hindi.

This paper covers Romantic and Modern Poetry with selected texts. They will also get to know about the modern poetic style, artistic sense etc.

Learners will able to know the various forms of Hindi language, various constitutional provisions related to Hindi, various correspondences done through Hindi, administrative correspondence, use of the various mechanical equipments in official purposes. Due to which the students will acquire different skills related to Hindi usage and it will also enhance their creative capabilities.

This paper will provide theoretical and practical knowledge related to translation studies to the students. It will give information about the use of official translation and documents prescribed under section 3(3). The learners will be able to enhance their Hindi translation skills in various fields like office, technical, creative literature etc.

From this paper the learners will be able to understand the history and various genres of Hindi prose via essay, sketch, travel description and autobiography. They will also get to know about the modern form, language, style, artistic sense etc.

On completion of the course, students will be able to understand the broad form of Hindi as a mother tongue and other language. It will provide an understanding of spoken Hindi in Standard, Literary and Constitutional Hindi in the field of literature. It will help in studying characteristics of Hindi language through different communication mediums ( Akashvani, Doordarshan, Chalchitra) and also provides information on the use of Hindi language in various forms of letter writing like official/govt. correspondence, comment, drafting.

After completing this paper, students will be able to understand the concept of folklore and folk culture, knowing the history of Lok Sahitya and the classification and forms of folk literature in India. They also get to know how Folk Drama affected Hindi Drama and Rangmanch. The learners will be able to understand the concepts of folk tales, folk language, folk dance and music.

The aim of this paper is to give knowledge about Rastriya sanskritik kavyadhara. The students will also get to know about patriotic, nationalist, humanitarian, progressive views through the poems and poets.
Core Course XIII (6th Semester)

After completion of this course, learners will understand the meaning, concept, importance and all the trends of literary journalism. They will be able to know the role of translation in literary journalism and will understand the contribution of papers in literature like Saraswati, Bharat Mitra, Hindi Pradip and Jansatta etc.

The paper aims to prepare the students for research works. They have to write a project work on eminent figures of Hindi Literature. Teachers will supervise the whole project. There will be 80 marks for written project and 20 marks for viva-voce.

After completion of this course, learners will understand the origin and development of Chhayavaad. Along with this they will learn about natural changes, scenic beauty, Indian freedom struggle, human relations, class straggle, socio-economic barriers in the way of establishing a well balanced society, Gandhian philosophy, Marxism, mystical sense in poetical writings in selected poets.
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC COURSE - II(DSE)( 6th semester)

(प्रेमचंद का साहित्य)
The paper tried to emphasize on the socio-political and rural cultural vision expressed in the literature of Munshi Premchand. Students will learn about the problems of women’s life as well as the religious leaders of the society: the monks and also about the hypocrites, the dowry system, the marriage mismatch and prostitutes through the novel ‘Sevasadan’. They will learn about the war fought in karbala through the play ‘Karbala’. It will give an understanding the relation between literature and life through essay ‘Sahitya ka uddeshya’. The paper also describes the rural justice system, love and sacrifice through child psychology, affective relationship between farming society and animals through selected texts.
Mechanism for Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE):
The Gauhati University has adopted major reforms in evaluation by introducing credit based grading system in Undergraduate level from the academic year 2016-17. The college has adopted a method of accessing the performance of the students on a continuous basis. For continuous internal evaluation of students, the department stipulated the following components as per the guideline of the parent University.
1. Sessional examination.
2. Home assignment.
3. Project Work.
4. Group Discussion.
5. Seminar Presentation.
6. Maintain Class attendance.
The department follows the University’s guideline for the afore mentioned fixed components, in addition, as a reformative measure to strengthen the internal assessment and evaluation process, it has added the following components/parameters at its own level.

3. Viva-voce for Project works.
4. Group discussion under each mentor.
5. Discussion on pattern of questions and probable questions.

2024-11-13 | Freshman Social( 13/11/2024) | The Department of Hindi, B.H.College, Howly celebrated Fresher’s Day function at Room No 18 on 13/11/2024 for the session 2024-25. The purpose of fresher’s party is to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses as well as to boost their confidence. It is the Day, where seniors and juniors finally bond and unite to celebrate being a part of the college. The students of B.A.1st Semester (Batch:2024-25) were welcomed with small gifts to this party which was organized by B.A.3rd & 5th Semester students of the Hindi Department at Room No 18 from 2.00 PM. The programme start with inaugural speech by Mridusmita Devi(B.A.5th Semester Student). The welcome song was performed by B.A. 3rd Semester students. Dr. B.C.Pathak, Principal, B.H.College, & Dr. C.K. Sarma,Assistant Professor of Statistics Department were invited as chief guests and delivered their valuable speech for the students. Dr. Jinakshi Chutia, Assistant Professor of the department and other faculties also addressed the new comer and welcomed them to the department. Freshers along with seniors were involved in solo acting, various dance, song performances like solo, Duo, Group dance etc. Finally at 4.30 PM the programme was ended with the distribution of packet lunch. | |
2024-09-13 | Hindi Dibwas Celebration ( 14th September, 2024) | This year Hindi Department observes Hindi Day (14th September) to inculcate values like self-respect, National integrity, social equality etc. in this occasion Department organizes various competitions and programmes in the college. Students in large numbers participate and mark their respect towards the nation and national language. Students are given the opportunity to organize and participate in a variety of co-curricular competitions like Essay writing, Extempore Speech, Painting, Products made from waste materials etc. Winners are given away the prizes on valedictory Day. Dr. Rajkumari Das, HoD of the department presided the meeting and gave introductory speech. Dr. B.C. Pathak, Principal, B.H. College, Dr. Abu Suma, Assistant Professor & HoD was invited as chief guest to deliver lecture on the significance of the official language. 2023-10-03 | Freshman Social( 03/10/2023) | The Department of Hindi, B.H.College, Howly celebrated Fresher’s Day function at Room No 128 on 03/10/2023 for the session 2023-24. The purpose of fresher’s party is to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses as well as to boost their confidence. It is the Day, where seniors and juniors finally bond and unite to celebrate being a part of the college. The students of B.A.1st Semester (Batch:2023-24) were welcomed with small gifts to this party which was organized by B.A.3rd & 5th Semester students of the Hindi Department at Room No 128 from 2.00 PM. The programme start with inaugural speech by Najibul Hasan(B.A.5th Semester Student). The welcome song was performed by B.A. 3rd Semester students. Professor D.K. Sarma and Dr. J.L. Nahata retired Professor of Hindi Department were invited as chief guest and delivered their valuable speech for the students. Dr. Rajkumari Das, H.o.D. of the department and other faculties also addressed the new comer and welcomed them to the department. Freshers along with seniors were involved in solo acting, various dance, song performances like solo, Duo, Group dance etc. Finally at 4.30 PM the programme was ended with the distribution of packet lunch. | |

AROHAN is the programme about taking everyone along, about handholding & support, about giving back to society. AROHAN - means Ascent. A properly mentored and guided upcoming generation shall be the strength and asset of the society and the future of Assam and our Nation's pride. Under the AROHAN the talented students in the age group of 13 to 18 years of the class-IX-XII will be provided support through mentoring/ counselling for career progression, exposure and incentive either cash or kinds. Background There is utmost requirement for creation of pool of resources/ expertise/ future leaders for the state who will lead their motherland towards glory. The secondary education is considered as the education of children entering to world of work. Therefore, to create this successful resource pool, the meritorious children are required to be groomed right from starting of their secondary education. There should be extra support other than schooling which is invariably required and the said extra support is proposed to be provided through a mentoring process under the programme of AROHAN. With a goal of creating a pool of Mentors for providing support to selected mentee (students), the state Government has designed a programme "Arohan". The Mentors will assist selected students of new generation to be supported as mentee in ascending and excelling in their career and in life. | |

2023-03-05 | SRAM DAAN | The Hindi Department of B.H College, Howly organised a programme of 'SRAM DAAN' by the students of 6th semester on 5th March, 2023 which started at 8:00 AM under the guidance of Dr.Rajkumari Das (HoD), Dr.Jinakshi Chutia And Gunin Das. The main purpose of the program was to boost the confidence of the students and make them physical and mentally healthy. In this programme all the students enthusiastically participated. Some of them started to pick wrappers and cleaves lying scattered on the ground, and after collecting all the litters, they deposited them in dustbins. A few of them also cleaned the botanical garden of the college. After doing this work for 2-3 hours, they were given some refreshments. As it was a unique moment for the students of 6th semester, so they clicked some group photos. The programme of 'SRAM DAAN' organized by Hindi department ended at around 12 noon and only then the students left the Department and the college campus. | |

Objective of the Practice : A wall magazine is used to facilitate communication and spread information among students as well as between students and teachers, staffs and visitors. Not only does it serve as a means of spreading messages, but also acts as a showcase in which displays a student’s talent and creativity. The content of a wall magazine gives opportunities of displaying one’s creative tendencies and potential in the form of literary and art. Title of the practice : “ Every day one Word” The Context: There is a general reluctance to learn Hindi in this part of the country. Even for those who learn, correct and proper meanings of words are not known. In this context, to inculcate enthusiasm and interest amongst the students to learn new words and their meanings, this practice was started by the Department of Hindi. The Practice: Every day, one student would write a new Hindi word, its English and Assamese meaning in a board installed outside the Department which is visible to each one coming to the Department. | View Files |
Title of the practice : “Community Hindi Teaching-Learning” The Context: There are many schools in the villages in and around the college. The students of the college are now pursuing graduation with Hindi Honours. They are now in a position to motivate younger students of nearby schools to learn the language. They can go to such schools on scheduled dates and teach school students in a friendly atmosphere. Keeping in view of this objective, the Department has started the initiative of Community Teaching-Learning after consulting with the management of the nearby Kasturva Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, where a student would go on scheduled dates and teach their Hindi lessons in a friendly manner under the supervision of the faculty members. 1. Title of the practice: Hand written magazine named “Prayash” In a literature subject, students should get a first-hand experience of writing on different forms of literature i.e. poem, story, article, travelogue etc. More importantly, they should know editorial skills, organizational skills and presentation skills. In this context, the handwritten magazine is brought out. Students practice patience, concentration, team work, good handwriting, art work, calligraphy, etc. while preparing the magazine. The students of department of Hindi bring out a handwritten magazine each year on the occasion of Hindi Divas (14th September). The name of the magazine is ‘Prayash’. The layout, designing, artworks and writings are done by students themselves. The initiative was started in the year 2016 Till now 8(Eight) issues have been published and all the 8(Eight) magazines are kept in the department. | View Files |
