With the opening of science stream in 1988, the Computer science department is not came into being. Diganta Das was the founder teacher of the department. Babul Ch. Deka was the second incumbentto join the department and continued to work till date. Currently it is a non govement department with two non-sansactioned regular teachers; they are Diganta Das, Babul ch. Deka. The department has a well academic tract record producing more than 240 graduates. . The department have well equipped laboratory along with necessary facilities. The faculty members are well qualified and involve in various activities of the institution in addition to departmental works.
The vision of the department is to motivate the students to enrich their knowledge about the technology science and to make the students to understand the inter relation of technology science with the environment and other living machine. To gathered knowledge from general science to higher technology and their inter relationships.
The mission of the department is to impart knowledge in Computer sciences and its different branches of Computer like networking, programming, web, AI, robotic learning techniques. By providing knowledge of hardware aimed to making the students entrepreneurs in this field.

Upon successful completion of a general course in computer science, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving techniques using the computer.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in at least one high-level programming language and one operating
system.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in the analysis of complex problems and the synthesis of solutions to
those problems.
4. Demonstrate comprehension of modern software engineering principles.
5. Demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge in the discipline of computer science.
Mechanism for Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE):The Gauhati University has adopted major reforms in evaluation by introducing credit based grading system in Undergraduate level from the academic year 2016-17. The college has adopted a method of accessing the performance of the students on a continuous basis. For continuous internal evaluation of students, the department stipulated the following components as per the guideline of the parent University.
1. Sessional examination.
2. Home assignment.
3. Project Work.
4. Group Discussion.
5. Seminar Presentation.
6. Maintain Class attendance.
7. Laboratory Practical and Field study.
The department follows the University’s guideline for the aforementioned fixed components, in addition, as a reformative measure to strengthen the internal assessment and evaluation process, it has added the following components/parameters at its own level.
1. MCQ based tests.
2. Class tests.
3. Viva-voce for Project works.
4. Group discussion under each mentor.
5. Discussion on pattern of questions and probable questions.
